Favorite Things: Bookstores

If there is one thing we love here at Design is Blank, it’s books. As two fanatics who recently relocated, I can tell you by the weight of our boxes, that we love books. A lot.

Here’s a list of my favorite places to spend those hard earned paychecks.

Los Angeles:

Family Bookstore
436 N. Fairfax Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90036

A great place for all sorts of art books, and they have a fantastic online store as well.

Hennessey + Ingalls
Space 15 Twenty
1520 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Suite 8
Los Angeles, CA 90028

One of the largest selections of art and architecture books, in addition to a good curation of magazines.

Ooga Booga
943 N. Broadway #203
Los Angeles, CA 90012

Amazing group of artist zines and one offs.

New York:

Dashwood Books
33 Bond Street
New York NY 10012

Absolutely beautiful photography books and zines, and a wonderful staff that would like nothing more than to spend the afternoon talking about books and photography with you.

Dexter Sinister
38 Ludlow Street (Basement South)
New York, New York 10002

From the creators of Dot Dot Dot. A small but amazing “occasional” bookstore. Open on Saturdays, but definitely worth the trip.

Printed Matter
195 Tenth Avenue
New York, NY 10011

New York book heaven. This is a must-visit.

Strand Books
828 Broadway
New York, NY. 10003

A fantastic collection of not only new books, but used and rare books as well. The smell of old pages fills the store, it’s intoxicating.

That’s my list, but I want to hear from you! What are your favorite bookstores? As you know, DIB loves lists. We also love to travel and spend money on books…
